Books of the Bible Quiz

A books of the Bible quiz in twenty questions: which book, which testament, and what order they come in. It plays here in the page, with every answer checked twice before it went live.

What the twenty questions ask

This quiz works at the level of the shelf rather than the page. Its twenty questions are about the books themselves: which book a well-known account belongs to, which testament a given book sits in, and where books fall in the running order. Proverbs turns up often enough that the page can stand in for a short proverbs quiz, though it keeps company with books from every section of the canon.

Nothing here asks you to complete a verse from memory — Chapter & Verse does not run verse-completion quizzes at all, since reproducing translation text at scale is quotation by the pound. Geography is absent too, for now; questions about places want maps, and maps are a later project.

The source behind each answer

Chapter & Verse checks its answers by double entry. Two readers filled in the same fixed questions independently, and their answers were compared value by value; eighty-three of eighty-three matched across the site. Book order is one of the places where canons genuinely differ, so where a question touches disputed ground it names the arrangement it is asking about or avoids the point altogether. The quiz describes; it does not adjudicate.

How the quiz runs

Four options per question, answered right here in the page. The moment you choose, the result appears, and the correct answer is shown whether you had it or not. After the last question you get a review of the full set, and your best score stays saved in this browser. There is nothing to sign up for and nothing to download.
